RWAMAGANA – The State Minister for Higher and Primary Education Dr. Mathias Harebamungu said that certain sections of the newly constructed girls’ secondary school in Rukara sector of Kayonza district will be re-constructed soon.

The minister made the revelations while talking to The New Times yesterday in Rwamagana town. The Minister said the school’s play grounds were in a sorry state, and some classrooms needed to be reconstructed.

The Minister said that it is surprising that the playgrounds are already dilapidated before students had the opportunity of using them by next academic year.

"I doubt if some classrooms are in proper shape…I have visited the school and we ordered the re-construction starting with the play grounds. If the classrooms are found to be in a bad shape, they too will have to be re-worked on”.

"We have been having problems with contractors who are irresponsible and some have turned out to be big cheats. FAWE is supposed to be a model school, but I am so disappointed by the way it looks,” he said.

The Mayor of Kayonza district of Damascène Muhororo agreed that some of the facilities constructed are below the expected standards.

FAWE girls’ school was temporarily handed over to the district authorities sometimes back after its construction. It is however, expected to be handed officially to the authorities, before next academic year.

The school’s construction has been marred with controversies, with workers complaining that the contractor in question, Thomas Rwagasana never paid all their wages.

The construction was sponsored by the World Bank that paid an estimated Rwf 1.2 Billion authorities said.
The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Rwanda chapter has embarked on the construction of five educational centers across the country.

The programme kicked off with the construction of a science oriented school in Rukara Sector; Kayonza District.
