Courts received 1000 rape cases

Up to one thousand rape cases have so far been received by courts of law this year, the Chief Justice, Aloysia Cyanzayire has disclosed. She said that of those, courts have successfully ruled on 856 of rape cases. Justice Cyanzayire was speaking on Tuesday while presiding over a two-day workshop on investigation, prosecution and adjudication of sexual and gender based crimes at Prime Holdings Centre in Kimihurura.

Justice Cyanzayire was speaking on Tuesday while presiding over a two-day workshop on investigation, prosecution and adjudication of sexual and gender based crimes at Prime Holdings Centre in Kimihurura.

"Its unfortunate that number (of rape cases) keeps increasing, Cyanzayire decried. She urged judges to prioritise rape and defilement cases.
