It was with sadness that I read in yesterdays publication that the bodies of the five Rwandan peacekeepers killed in North Darfur two weeks ago arrived in Kigali Sunday afternoon, where senior military commanders and families of the fallen troops gathered to witness their arrival.

The deceased were a few of the brave men and women that served under the United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).

I want to inform their families and the greater Rwandan public that they did not die in vain but rather died for a great reason.

They died for humanity. For each of us, African, European, Asian or American are linked by what I call the ‘web’ of humanity. What happens in one part of the world, affects what happens in another.

Therefore, if we don’t care about what happens to the people in one area of the world, we are being less ‘human’. I believe that what goes around comes around.

We in Rwanda suffered because the international community turned its back on us. We cant do the same to the people suffering in Darfur.
