The former Amavubi Stars captain Ahmed Ndikumana Gatauti is considering a return to international football, after a year in self-imposed retirement.

Ndikumana who features in the Cyprus Premier league told Times Sport through an e-mail yesterday that he wants a return to international football.

"I want to return because so many people have asked me to. The likes of Olivier Karekezi have asked me to reconsider playing for Amavubi stars.

"Even after scrutinizing the 2010 CAN/Fifa draws made recently, I felt it worthy to help my country secure a ticket for the African and World Cup finals respectively,” the 30-year-old said.

The former Rayon Sports ace further added that he has sent a fax to the local federation indicating his wish to return to the national team.

He confirmed, "I have informed them (Ferwafa) that I’m ready to play for Amavubi again.”  Ndikumana added that if it had not been for his club’s participation in the Cyprus national league, he would have returned in time for next month’s Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.

Despite facing a rough exit from the Uefa Cup championship at the hands of Tottenham, Ndikumana’s Anorthosis is leading the Cyprus league table with 24 points in 17 fixtures.

The experienced defender confirmed that he wrote to Ferwafa authorities expressing his desire not to be considered for national team duties anymore in early 2006 after he was stripped off the team captaincy.

The Cyprus based defender, was stripped of the team captaincy last year in the wake of reports that he received a kick back to fix the Angola-Rwanda game at Amahoro stadium where Rwanda lost 0-1 to pave her way out of the 2006 CAN finals held in Cairo, Egypt.

Ndikumana revealed that he sent a fax to Ferwafa indicating his willingness to return to Amavubi Stars’ fold, an insider in the local Federaion has confirmed that they have indeed receivied the fax from the former national team inspirational skipper.
