HUYE - Two people sustained minor injuries after an unknown assailant hurled a grenade at a small gathering in a town hotel.
The incident happened on Saturday at around 8.30pm at Twiga Hotel in Huye as a group of about 30 people enjoyed a late evening English premiership football match on television.
Alain Kanyarutoki, the hotel manager and one of the injured people recalled a sudden and heavy blast inside the hotel premises that sparked off commotion as people scampered for safety.
"It was sudden,” said the hotel manager with a bandaged hand, "we could not tell what had hit us until soldiers who rushed to the scene identified it as a grenade attack.”
"We believe that people in the bar were the main target since the grenade landed just a few metres away,” he told The New Times.
"We have not recorded any such incident at the hotel in the past, we are now going to tighten security to protect our clients,” he said.
Meanwhile Police have arrested five people in connection with the Saturday attack as investigations into the motive of this aggression continue.
