RwandAir has signed contracts with eight trainee pilots from the Rwanda’s Air Force (RWF) who will be leaving Rwanda for Phoenix, Arizona USA for a 12 months long training course on commercial piloting.

The signing ceremony took place at the RwandAir headquarters in Centenary House on Friday.  It was witnessed by Air Force Chief of Staff, LT, Gen, Charles K. Muhire and the carrier’s CEO Gerald Zirimwabagabo.

This comes just days after the national carrier shipped its owned CRJ-200. The airline is also in negotiations with Airbus and Boeing for large capacity aircrafts.

The airline has been relying on wet leases from Jetlink and Dash8 which have both facilitated the national carrier with aircrafts and other services.

With the acquisition of new aircrafts, Rwandair will increase the number of destinations to include Tanzania, where it will be flying to Dar el Salaam and Arusha as well as the DR. Congo with flights to Goma, Lubumbashi and eventually Kinshasa.

It also targets flying to Dubai in the Middle East.
The national carrier also is planning to join the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in the next three months.
