Ecobank currently boasts 15 branches countrywide, twelve of which are equipped with an ATM, a feature that no other bank in the country has managed to achieve so far. The bank also has ATMs on off-site locations such as at the Kanombe International Airport and Butare NUR.
"We continue to pursue our dual objective of improving convenience and accessibility to our products and services by our clients. The extension of our branch network and the reach of our ATM network facilities to branches outside of Kigali ensures that our customers outside Kigali can also access our services without the inconvenience of travelling to Kigali.” Sackey said while toasting to the attendants.
Sackey added that two more branches will be created next year, one to be added as early as the beginning of next year in Giporoso and the other before the end of the first quarter 2010 at a location yet to be selected.
In 2007, Ecobank took over Bank of Commerce Development and Industry (BCDI) which was on the brink of closure due to the heavy losses it was making.
Two and half years down the road, Ecobank has reversed the loss trend of (BCDI) and turned the bank into one of the major and profitable banks in Rwanda.
"We have improved the quality of our stuff by introducing on-the-job-training and external training to ensure that our people are equipped with the requisite skills to discharge their duties so that our ranks are at par with international standards.” Sackey added.
The occasion was also used to formally launch the bank’s newest product, "International Visa Acquiring” on selected ATMs of the bank. The bank is one of the two principal banks authorized by Visa International to undertake international ATM acquiring in Rwanda.
"Our newest product, The Visa International Card, will enable all Rwandans and visitors to the country who hold visa international cards to withdraw local currency from the selected Ecobank ATMs in Rwanda.” Sackey said.
