There is this tall black man with short and well groomed hair and artistically trimmed moustache by the name Hiting’en. He is masculine and keeps his body fit the like of the famous Guinness Michael power.

He never misses gymnasium every evening after work. He wear casually on week days and sporty over the weekends. He is stylish and walks majestically.

Hiting’en is a freelance journalist. He does most of his work while at home. He is very brilliant in grammar.

He is razor-sharp in English. He mastered language at Harvard University, needless to say the current US president graduated from the same highly esteemed institution the world over.

He is qualified by far to be a lecturer at any university in the world let alone Rwanda his home country but he opts to be writing journals to various print media houses. His articles are admired by many and he is highly recognized by scholars. He indeed is an authority in that field.

Though at his late thirties, he is not in a hurry to marry. This is by the reason that he had two relationships before which never materialized.

In fact, both relationships left his heart badly broken or should I say damaged? He from that experience don’t believe real love ever exist. "Love is a temporary madness.
It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides.

And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part.” Said St.Augustine.

Hiting’en considers love to be extinct just like the legendary dinosaurs. He is contented with his work and when not at work, you will find him at the gym doing exercises to kip fit and of course keep some common illnesses at bay.

Unknown, to Hiting’en, he has a secret admirer at the gym. A business oriented lady. She is young, dynamic and very successful business lady. She is a single mother of twins. She has a boy and a girl.

Tresy broke up with her husband almost immediately she delivered the twins. Her husband deserted them while she was still weaning the twins. She struggled to raise up the toddlers single handedly.

Tresy’s mother had died when she was still young. Her father had married another wife soon after that. She was left lonely. Her father and the now mother in law had little or no time at all to visit or even assist her.

It was taxing to raise the twins with no one to give hand. The so called love lost meaning to her.

From that tough background, Tresy had learnt to be self reliant and toiled extra hard in order to make the ends meet. Though she had schooled she was not ashamed to vendor small merchandise for her survival and that of her treasured children.

After some few years, she managed to secure a job as a marketer. She did her job with vigilance to the admiration of her employer.

However, back in her mind, she didn’t want to remain employed for long. All she wanted was to raise enough capital to a start a business of her own. It took her less than two years to realize her dream.

She got the capital she needed, did the feasibility study thoroughly well to start the business of her dream and off, she jump started it.

Her business flourished. It is said that behind every successful man there is a woman but I doubt if the vice versa applies. She manages her business single handedly and it has thrived well.

Being a business lady and often tight scheduled, she began to attend gym in town to relax her muscles, relieve stress and keep fit. It is here that she met Hiting’en. His smile to her touched her inner soul than no one did. She new for sure the chap was unique in some way.

Hiting’en and Tresy didn’t communicate for sometime when they met at the gym. This was triggered by their past experiences and none wanted to indulge in yet another vague love hullabaloo! Their eye contact however spoke volumes.

Christmas was approaching and gym members were declining in numbers as most of them were traveling upcountry for the holidays.

There was scarcity in the gymnasium but Hiting’en and Tresy never missed.

They were obliged to assist each other in weight lifting, press-ups, sit-ups and other activities in the gym. Cupid’s arrow hovered in the air but they both refrained to succumb.

The atmosphere outside with Christmas carols and all the excitement outside made them feel caged.

Hiting’en finally broke the silence one day and asked Tresy "where will you spend your Christmas?” "Mmmmh, imagine up to now I’ve got no idea” she answered. "Don’t you have a family to be with?” Hiting’en inquired. "I have and they are all busy in their own different ways.

I have twins and they will be with their father at their glad mother’s” Tresy read what Hiting’en was about to ask and added "I separated with my husband seven years ago.

He only comes over once on Christmas to pick up the kids. That’s all” She sobbed and Hiting’en drew her close to his sweaty chest and hugged her passionately. "Am sorry girl” He whispered realizing Tresy was as lonely as he was.

"I hardly know you but I suggest we be together this Christmas.” Hiting’en suggested. "I’ll surely love it” she replied without hesitation. Christmas day came and Tresy had a superb itinerary!

From street strolling, having buffet lunch, swimming and wrestling at the beach, dancing and the list was endless. Sure enough most of all that was accomplished and was truly magical least to say memorable.

They both craved to cement the relationship. Their past experiences however drew a wall which proved to be hard to break. They dreaded it might end up being doomed love affair like the infamous Romeo and Juliet.

"I wish we could put up some of the Christmas spirit in jars and open a jar of it every month.”  ~Harlan Miller
