KAMPALA - Rwandan First Lady Mrs. Jeannette Kagame has urged African leaders to collaborate in coming up with viable policies or systems to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa, a pandemic that has remained a major impediment to Africa’s development.

Mrs. Kagame made the call in a speech read on her behalf by Dr Alashle Abimiku from Maryland University and co-chairperson of African AIDS Vaccine Programme (AAVP) at the fifth AAVP forum that was held in Kampala.

"I would like to appeal to all African governments to establish systems and policies that will attract the resources we need to strengthen our responsibilities in order to eliminate HIV/AIDS in Africa and the world at large,” the First Lady said. 

She requested African leaders to intervene and provide more guarantees that ensure all HIV/AIDS victims have access to universal medication in all African nations by 2010

The forum that attracted African and Europeans scientists, praised Mrs. Kagame for her determination to eliminate the scourge, not only in Rwanda, but also across the continent.
