There is room for a ‘legitimate’ loan shark

Editor,

I was happy to read that following the recent arrest of 14 suspected loan sharks for running the illegal money lending business popularly known as ‘Banque Lambert’, the Central Bank Governor Francois Kanimba came out and told the press that the scheme could operate under a regulated environment.

I believe that there is room for both the ‘normal’ commercial banks and the ‘Banque Lambert’s.

Usually, people use those loan sharks because they simply cannot get a loan from a commercial bank quick enough.

Therefore, having these people operating in a regulated manner will be good for all those concerned.
