MUSANZE-Police in Musanze yesterday arrested a woman identified as Marie Immacula Twagiramahoro, for dumping her new-born baby girl into an eight- meter pit latrine.

Twagiramahoro a resident of Mbogo, in Rulindo district where he was arrested had had a normal delivery at Ruhengeri hospital.

It was after delivery that she reportedly wrapped her baby in a piece of cloth and sought a pit in town where she dumped the infant.

However, residents dismantled the pit and rescued the baby after it was heard crying..

The woman, a mother of three children cried asking for forgiveness for what residents described as an inhuman act.

She said her action was prompted by marital misunderstandings over plots of land and family houses. She claimed she would be unable to support another child.

She accused her spouse Bernard Sengiyunva of abandoning her for other two wives.

The woman whom police said would be charged with attempted murder, claimed ignorance of the man responsible for her latest pregnancy saying she only knew him as a lorry driver with whom they met in Shyorongi.

Police said it would step up crackdown on cases of child neglect.
