RWANDA has taken legal and administrative actions in ratifying the International convention against doping in sport.

The Director of Sports in the Ministry of Sport and Culture Gaspard Kaijuka concedes that supporting the convention is necessary in order to harmonize standards and to ensure a consistent global approach in the fight against doping in sport.

"The cabinet of Rwanda approved the convention early this year and was publicized in the official gazette of the country in March 31,” he continued.

Kaijuka further added that Rwanda is now entitled to give full effect to the World Anti-Doping Code and to formalize global anti-doping rules, policies and guidelines that provide a healthy and equitable environment for all athletes.

Doping puts at risk the ethical principles and educational values embodied in the International Charter of Physical Education and Sport of UNESCO and in the Olympic Charter.

The Convention is set to enter into force before the end of December after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation deposits their instruments of ratification, approval, acceptance or accession with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
