NAIROBI – Cecafa Secretary General Nicolas Musonye has lambasted his Fellow Kenyan for not supporting the Senior Challenge Cup despite being played in their country.

According to Musonye, less than a million spectators have watched the 23 matches played so far, a record that is far less than the tournament organizers had projected.

"Kenyans have failed me as Secretary General of Cecafa. This tournament has been a failure in terms of spectators but on the field, it’s been a success,” Musonye said.
He added, "It’s impossible to run football in this country. Without Orange, organizing this tournament would have been possible.”

He hit at Kenya’s cooperate companies for not supporting not only football but sports in their country.
"People in this country (Kenya) pretend to love football yet they don’t. They’re just interest on politics and going to bar to drink beers.

"If I were in Rwanda, Uganda or Tanzania, I would not be in this kind of mess,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Musonye rated Tanzania as the best Cecafa tournament hosts, followed by Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia and Zanzibar in that order. "Even Somalia is better than Kenya .”

"We have not had this kind of tournament here (Kenya) for a long time but I am disappointed that the people of this country decided to let us done.’
