KAYONZA – District leaders from Kayonza have urged the public to embrace condoms and stop associating them to promiscuity.

Denise Uwera, the officer in charge of health in Kayonza district made the remarks while addressing residents who had turned up for a condom promotion campaign in the district.

"We have to teach people how to use condoms properly if they are to be effective,” she said.

"It is difficult because condom use disagrees with some aspects of traditional values. We cannot however, be slaves of some endangering traditions.”

According to the district health officials, the promotion is expected to cover the whole district.

Uwera, added that there is need to promote female condoms since women have little say on the use of male condoms.

Edward Muhima, officer in charge of anti HIV/AIDS campaign in the district, stressed the importance of condoms in family planning and HIV prevention.
