MUHANGA – The Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) has asked local leaders to step up efforts to stem out gender based violence (GBV) in villages. Captain Rose Urujeni, the Head of RDF-Gender desk, made the call on Thursday during a training of over 200 representatives of anti-Gender Based Violence clubs in Muhanga district.
MUHANGA – The Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) has asked local leaders to step up efforts to stem out gender based violence (GBV) in villages.
Captain Rose Urujeni, the Head of RDF-Gender desk, made the call on Thursday during a training of over 200 representatives of anti-Gender Based Violence clubs in Muhanga district.
"There is need for training residents and working in collaboration with local leaders and other key partners to stem gender violence,” Captain Urujeni stated.
The training held at Muhanga cultural centre, was conducted in conjunction with the RDF 411 Battalion.
Captain Callixte Kayiranga, encouraged residents to continue collaborating with security officials.
It was noted that most court cases in the area involve gender violence.
Poverty, cultural beliefs, lack of family planning and illegal marriages were cited as the most outstanding causes of gender violence.
Claude Sebashi, the district representative, asked the participants to disseminate the knowledge acquired from the training to local communities.
