MUSANZE – Authorities at Mutobo Demobilisation and Reintegration centre in Musanze district have arrested five women, who allegedly crossed to DR Congo and were later repatriated claiming to be dependants of ex-combatants who are currently attending orientation course. The women were apprehended by the authorities during the screening exercise.

The women were apprehended by the authorities during the screening exercise.
Dressed in traditional wear commonly known as kitenge were all carrying children. The women confessed after interrogations that they had lied to officials of MONUC in order to benefit from material support.
The Director of Mutobo Demobilisation Centre, Frank Musonera, said the women were following a tip-off from the ex-combatants.
The women had asked some ex-combatants not to betray them, and pose as their husbands, Musonera said.
"They physically look different from the people coming from Congo, they cannot speak a word of native Congolese languages, and they don’t know the area they claim to have lived for the last 15 years,” Musonera said.
One of the ex-combatants, Corporal André Harerimana, condemned ex-rebels who connive with impostors to fleece the government.
They have brought shame to the ex combatants, he said.
Upon return, the dependants of ex-combatants are given home utensils to start up a life.
