MUSANZE – Local leaders have been challenged to speed up the provision of necessary infrastructure needed to supply communities with safe drinking water in rural communities. Guy Mbayo, head of UNICEF’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene project (WASH), said this on Tuesday during a two-day annual review meeting aimed at assessing the project’s achievements.
MUSANZE – Local leaders have been challenged to speed up the provision of necessary infrastructure needed to supply communities with safe drinking water in rural communities.
Guy Mbayo, head of UNICEF’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene project (WASH), said this on Tuesday during a two-day annual review meeting aimed at assessing the project’s achievements.
He said the authorities should identify major factors that facilitate or hinder effective implementation of planned activities and draw lessons from them.
The meeting was attended by district vice mayors and the officers in charge of infrastructure from over ten districts that benefit from the WASH project.
According to a progress report, two eco san latrines were constructed in over 10 schools in Rubavu district. And a water project worth Rwf180m was launched in Burera district meant to supply clean water in sectors of Kivuye, and Gatebe.
The project aims to reach 500,000 people in the target districts by 2013. This includes 200 schools and 50 health centres.
