Cultural icon arrested over defilement

Police is holding a cultural genius, Kalisa Rugano for reportedly defiling a 16-year old girl (names withheld), The New Times has learnt.

Rugano, now detained at Remera police station, was arrested December 4 when the girl reported the matter to Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

When contacted the police spokesman Eric Kayiranga confirmed Kalisa’s arrest saying that the police has attained all evidence required to prosecute Rugano.

"We have the doctor’s report that confirm the girl was raped, and we have witnesses who testified that this man raped the girl,” Kayiranga said by phone.

He also added that the girl was a member of the dancing troupe that had gathered at the suspect’s house for rehearsals.

According to the Police spokesman the girl was sent by her mother in Musanze to Kigali to learn Rwandan culture.
