RWAMAGANA – Residents of Nyagasenyi-Gahonogo village in Rwamagana district are complaining of a potentially hazardous dumping site in the area.

Talking to The New Times, yesterday, the residents criticized the authorities for allowing garbage collected from Rwamagana town to be dumped in a residential area.

Pierre Habimana, one of the residents said, "This is really unfortunate as it is a typical case of environmental pollution to the detriment of residents.”

The dumping site emits a foul smell from a distance.
Another resident, David Musonera, said their children are in danger because the area is used as a play ground.

When contacted, the area Executive Secretary, Valerie Rubibi said he was not aware and promised to look into the matter.

"I am just learning it from you. I didn’t know there was such a site. But I am going to follow the up,” he said.
