THE National Olympic committee (RNOC) yesterday started a new lease of life, when they elected a new executive committee after months of animosity between the Minister of Sports Joseph Habineza and the former president of the Olympic body Ignace Beraho.
Habineza disbanded Beraho and his executive committee for insubordination and stubbornly refusing to relinquish power.
The elections, which were held at Ferwafa head offices, attracted 35 voters.
Dr. Charles Rudakubana claimed the top seat with a landslide win over former Sports Minister Robert Bayigamba.
Gashugi Muhimpundu (ARDMES) is the new vice president; Elie Manirarora (NPC-Rwanda) beat Jean Paul Munyandamusta (Athletics) in the re-run to clinch the second vice president position.
Parfait Busabizwa (Corporate league) is the new Secretary General while Thierry Rwabusaza (Cycling) is the body’s treasurer.
The swearing in ceremony is scheduled for next Saturday at a venue yet to be named.
