The holiday season officially kicked off recently as candidates came to the climax of their national exams countywide. All students save for a few with second sittings especially in higher institutions of learning, are home for the longest holiday period which stretches into the New Year.
The holiday season officially kicked off recently as candidates came to the climax of their national exams countywide. All students save for a few with second sittings especially in higher institutions of learning, are home for the longest holiday period which stretches into the New Year.
This being a promotional term, some are basking in the joy of making it to the next academic level or class.
They reaped from the benefits of time well utilised while the unfortunate lot who diverted from their principle calling-studies; are all regrets and deeply engulfed in pondering the next in their academic journey come 2010.
There is nothing much to write home about as far as holidays are concerned since most holiday makers believe ‘it’s resting, playing and merry making time’.
Holidays are meant for self-evaluation, taking a much needed rest from the hustles of books and also taking advantage to enjoy quality time with parents, guardians and distant relatives.
Alternatively, holiday makers could actively involve themselves in community volunteer services such as umuganda, anti-sida sensitisations.
This could also help one try out unexplored talents by enrolling in drama and dance schools, swimming, getting involved in religious activities such as singing in choirs and getting to know God better.
More so, try getting some employment- as a source of extra income that will promote self reliance and also a source of valuable experience.
Holiday is also an opportunity to enrol in short course studies such as computer studies, catering, knitting, pursue a driving licence or seize a chance to study languages such as French, English and Swahili.
This fosters and enhances ones C.V (Curriculum Vitae/Resume) and is valuable acquired experience that promotes diversity in all fields of study thus competitive edge in the employment world.
Socialisation this holiday should enable the youth to kill time (boredom). It is appropriate to visit and meet up with long-lost friends. There is much to catch up with due to the time spent apart in various schools.
It should be noted that, it is best to request for permission from parents, guardians or caretakers before setting off to pay friendly visits or to go anywhere for that matter.
Remember to respect visiting times of the day and do not exceed the permitted time.
Unfortunately, most students leave home under the disguise of going to visit relatives or watch European soccer leagues but instead end up indulging in illegal cases such as drugs and theft, indulge in sex that puts them at risk of HIV Aids and early pregnancies.
With these few but ideal guidelines, I would bet any holiday maker who puts these principles into action, this holiday will be just like any other of a kind ‘short’- with lots of fun, moments worth cherishing and a C.V worth each penny spent. Happy holidays.
