Allow me to react on the article that appeared in The New Times on Thursday December 3rd, regarding Members of Parliament adopting a standard dress code.

I am actually disappointed that the Rwandan Parliament which has set a number of good examples worldwide did not have a standard dress code.

However, it is not too late. The new development in the Rwandan parliament comes at the right time, as the country joins the Commonwealth.

It should be noted that parliaments in Commonwealth member countries run a standard dress code which legislators have to strictly abide with.

Any bleach of the code calls for the house to move a motion or the speaker taking it into his/her own hands to instruct the Sergeant at Arms to lead the MP who bleached the code out.

It is therefore spot on for our MPs to take this bold move to avoid any embarrassments at the international level.

Legislators should not be dressing only for occasions. As representatives of the people; they should lead by example by dressing decently.

Bravo our MPs.
