Ntagungira told Times Sport recently that he is still waiting for a confirmation from Africa’s football body (CAF).
"I’m yet to here from them (CAF) but I’m keeping my fingers crossed,” Abega said.
Last month, the 43-year-old was one of 50 referees who underwent assessment in Cairo.
The assessment was part of their preparation for next year’s Nations Cup which is sponsored by Orange.
Besides CAN, those who were outstandingly have been tipped to even officiate at next year’s World Cup in South Africa.
Abega has good experience at the international scene after officiating at the 2006 and 2008 CAN as well as 2006 World Cup.
He was also involved at the 2008 Fifa Club World Championship held in Yokohama, Japan and Beijing Olympic Games.
He has been refereeing since 1997.
