THE National Chess Federation president Godfrey Kabera believes that Rwanda can give her opponents (Ugandan and Kenyan) a run for their money in today’s Rwabushenyi memorial chess championship in Kampala.

Rwanda has fielded four players at the one-day event- Kabera, Assad Ndangiza, William Abiye and Alex Ruzigura.

Kabera, who is also Rwanda’s top seed, noted that although the Ugandans have the upper hand, his colleagues can push them all the way.

"We can cause a few shocks but that means that we have to be at our best,” Kabera told Times Sport yesterday.

The tournament is in memory of former Uganda chess federation President Cyril Rwabushenyi and will include U-14 and U-10 age categories.

Kenya’s Issac Babu is the tournament’s chief arbiter.
