AMAVUBI’S stand in coach Eric Nshimiyimana has challenged his youthful side to step up their game ahead of Thursday’s clash with Eritrea.

The call comes a day after the team’s slim 1-0 victory over minnows Somalia. Nshimiyimana knows that victory over Eritrea will all but seal Rwanda’s place in the quarter-finals of this year’s Orange Cecafa Challenge Cup which kicked off on Saturday.

"Somalia is not an easy team like many think and our task was made more difficult after we had to play with ten men for about 60 minutes,” the former Amavubi midfielder reasoned.

Amavubi labored to a 1-0 win over Somalia at Nyayo national stadium on Sunday.

Somalia’s Badri Mwalimu gave the wasps a fourth-minute lead after scoring in his own net but it was disappointing not to see Rwanda adding onto the score-a situation which further confirmed the team’s unrelenting woes infront of goal.

The team will however get the benefit of doubt after playing with ten men for over 60 minutes after Jean Claude Iranzi was sent off for unsporting-like behavior.

Action continues today when Eritrea takes on Cosafa champions Zimbabwe at Nyayo stadium while Zanzibar battle Tanzania in Mumias.  Tanzania lost 0-2 to defending champions Uganda while Zanzibar hammered Burundi 4-0 in Group C.

Rwanda is drawn in Group B alongside Somalia, Eritrea and Zimbabwe.
