Peter Rutaisire had always been very clever in class. Since he started school, he ranked number one and so he thought he owned the whole world. Peter used to read his books all the time, but he stopped because he thought he was so good in class; after all he was the best and no one could beat him.
Peter Rutaisire had always been very clever in class. Since he started school, he ranked number one and so he thought he owned the whole world.
Peter used to read his books all the time, but he stopped because he thought he was so good in class; after all he was the best and no one could beat him.
He started joining groups of students who spent most of their time gossiping and singing useless songs instead of reading. He thought he had found real friends.
Peter did not know that the people he had joined envied him because he performed better than them. They wanted him to fail.
When Peter’s teachers tried to talk to him, he said he wanted to be like the other students who led a life that had no complications of books.
He was tired of being called a book worm.
When time for the final examination was approaching, all the students wanted to read more yet at this moment they could not understand everything properly.
Peter thought he could make it at this time and so he tried to cram. He spent sleepless nights trying to make up for the time he wasted.
When the final examinations came, Peter discovered that every time he left the examination room he had misunderstood a question and had answered it wrongly. This happened in every paper.
After marking, Peter’s teachers could not believe that he was among the last performers.
No matter how much Peter cried, he could not change anything. The grades he got could not promote him to another class and the only option he had was to repeat.
Since then he learnt that pride comes before a fall. Peter wished he had listened to his teachers but it was too late. He could not turn back time.
His parents were so disappointed but Peter knew he was the one to blame. He studied hard from that time and always got good grades.
