Rwanda Association for Sustainable Energy (ARED) which aims at educating, advocating and promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency especially in rural areas currently has over 50 private energy companies subscribing to it.

This was confirmed by the Chairman of the association Jean Bosco Rwiyamirira during a workshop at Top Tower Hotel last week which was organized to strengthen partnership between government and private energy companies as well exchange information, share experience and progress on promotion of renewable technologies, energy conservation and efficiency.

The conference also aimed at seeking views from stakeholders on national sustainable energy solutions, renewable energy policy and strategy and formulation of a legal framework of the association.

He explained that the overview of the association is to work together with government in curbing the energy deficit so as to avoid unbalanced development and its negative outcome, mostly in rural areas.

"Through the government’s institutional reform of the energy sector, we join the struggle to rebuild and revive the national economy focusing on the role of energy or electricity towards achieving national development,” he said.  He emphasised the need to sensitize the population on proper use of the available energy to avoid wastage.

The workshop attracted different stakeholders including decision makers and experts from the private and public sectors, research institutions, and international institutions.

It was organized by ARED in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and supported by Belgium Technical Cooperation (BTC).
