With Kigali Golf Club already enjoying what could be one of their heavily congested golfing calendars, Macmillan yesterday became the latest sponsors to add onto that delight.

The international publishing company under its local branch ‘Macmillan Rwanda’ has staged its first ever golf tournament.

The publishing house has financially backed the two-day golf tournament that got under-way yesterday with a short-gun tee-off at 12:30.

According to Marcel Byusa, KGC’s new captain, the turn-up for the two-day event is only second to Rwanda Open; the country’s most prestigious golf tournament.

"We commend Macmillan for coming on board. We have witnessed a grand entry of over 76 golfers, which in itself is commendable,” Byusa said while addressing the press on Friday.

The head of Macmillan Rwanda Arthur Barigye together with his Kenyan and Tanzanian counterparts David Muita and Khalaf Rashid are part of the golfers vying for the event’s top prize.

Meanwhile, a special subsidiary competition for kids’ golfers is on schedule today. According to Byusa, the winners in this particular category will also walk away with handsome prizes.

The publishing house, which has been functional for the past eight years, becomes the latest organization to bankroll the sport after the likes of Rwanda Commercial Bank, MTN, East African Breweries, Bralirwa and ORTPN amongst others.

A colorful prize giving ceremony is expected to crown the competition later in the evening.
