Although the team crumbled in its first two openers and clinched a narrow win from Kenya Poly, the Silverbacks head coach is happy to have reached the finals of the Nakuru 7s.

The team managed to edge off Kabarak 36-0 in quarterfinal competition, a win that earned them qualification to the last four, a phase a Rwandan side had never passed in this particular tournament.

In the semifinals they beat Mombasa Polytechnic 26-05 to book a in the final against Kenya/Moi University.
However, the Silverbacks lost a tightly contested final clash 12-5 to the Kenyans.

"We played well. We are happy to have reached the stage for the first time. The loss was partly due to some minor problems but we’re generally happy to reach this far,” said Silverbacks head coach Gerard Nsenga.

Nsenga attributed part of failing to win the final to earlier injuries incurred in their first two opening matches against Impala and Kenya Polytechnic.

The event attracted 24 teams from the East African region. The clubs were drawn in six pools, Silverbacks qualified from Pool E which included Kenya Poly, Mean Machines and the Impalas.
