•Pending visit of top IOC/ANOCA officials

FEDERATIONS will have to wait a little longer before casting their vote for the new RNOC executive committee.

The highly awaited elections were yesterday postponed after a unanimous decision from the general assembly.
The decision emerged after a request from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

It is said that Jerome Poivey, an official with the IOC asked the RNOC interim committee headed by Aimable Bayingana to delay the elections pending a working visit by an IOC team.

"We have called off the elections pending a visit by a team from the International Olympic Committee and Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA),” Bayingana explained to Times Sport.

The IOC team, which flies in tomorrow, will meet with the Sports Minister Joseph Habineza to be briefed on the reasons that led to the disbandment of the former RNOC executive committee led by Ignace Beraho.

IOC’s Poivey and ANOCA’s second vice president Joao da Costa Aegre arrive Tuesday morning. The pair will have a detailed chat with Habineza before meeting with officials from the different sports federations.

Meanwhile, the elections have now been rescheduled for December 5 at the football federation (Ferwafa) headquarters.

Former Sports Minister Robert Bayigamba and Rwanda Tennis Federation (RTF) head Charles Rudakubana are vying for RNOC’s top seat (president).

Phophina Muhimpundu and Theogne Uwayo are in contention for the post of 1st Vice president, while Elie Manirora (NPC-Rwanda), Jean Paul Munyandamusta (athletics) and David Mucyesha are contesting for the post of 2nd vice president.

Parfait Busabizwa and Alex Mbaraga are running for the post of Secretary General while Thiery Rwabusaza (Cycling federation) and Alain Christian Sekuru are contesting for the post of treasurer.

The former RNOC executive committee was dissolved by Habineza on grounds of Insubordination and stubbornly refusing to relinquish power.
