FOUR clubs have dropped out of the 2009/10 second division league, two days before the official kick-off.

Last year’s play-off finalists Military, Aspej, Mukungwa and Gisovu will not feature in the new season because of lack of resources, according to the Chief Executive Officer of the national football federation (Ferwafa) Jules Kalisa.

"They are pulling out because they can’t raise the funds to run their respective clubs,” Kalisa said before adding that unlike previous editions, Ferwafa is not offering any financial support to clubs for the new campaign.

Like last year, the top two teams from each group qualify to play in the play-offs were the top two eventually qualify to play in the top flight.

High riding Etincelles and Musanze are the clubs that joined the top flight last year, while Kibuye and La Jeunesse were relegated to the second division.

After the exit of the quartet, the second division will now have 16 clubs. Group A pits Zebres, Etoile de l’Est, Sorwathe, Intare, Pepiniere, Kibuye and Nyanza while Interforce, Union, ISAE, Stella Maris, La Jeunesse, Muhanga, Espoir and National University of Rwanda (UNR) make up Group B.

Ferwafa has also confirmed that there will be no foreigners in this year’s second division- a move aimed at giving local players more opportunity to showcase their talent.
