RWAMAGANA – The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will soon embark on a rural water supply project in Eastern Province worth over Rwf400 billion. Shoji Fujii, an official of the Japanese development agency, while presenting the project’s plan before local leaders yesterday, said their study had identified present water coverage in the province at 53%, which is much less than the average rate for the country which currently stands at 71%.

Shoji Fujii, an official of the Japanese development agency, while presenting the project’s plan before local leaders yesterday, said their study had identified present water coverage in the province at 53%, which is much less than the average rate for the country which currently stands at 71%.
"There is an urgent need for water sources to be brought closer to residents of the Eastern province than any other province in Rwanda,” Shoji Fujii. "This should be accompanied by training the population on water management techniques for the purposes of ensuring sustainability of supply,”
Boniface Ntirenganya, the Ngoma district coordinator of economic development, reiterated the importance of training the population on water management.
