TELECOMMUNICATION giants, MTN have thrown their weight behind this year’s wooden bike classic tour slated for November 25.

The event, which is rolling into its third edition, will be held in Kigali covering a distance of 40km.

"It’s an open competition so international cyclists can come on board,” the local cycling federation president Aimable Bayingana said.

MTN, who splashed US$8000 in this year’s Tour of Rwanda are said to have splashed about Rwf1m in the wooden bicycle contest.

In the past, the tour has been held in Musanze, the birth place of the Wooden Bike.

The event is unique because on top of cycling, it portrays the locals’ intellect and role of bicycles in the day to day life of Rwandans.

Meanwhile, the eight-stage Tour of Rwanda climaxes today.
