The Taqwa Coach bus carrying forty five passengers, was heading to Kigali from Dar es Salaam when it collided with a fuel tanker that later saw the bus burnt to ashes.
According to the Police Spokesman Supretendant Eric Kayiranga, the accident occurred at Kongwa between Morongoro and Dodoma regions.
"Two Rwandan passengers died. The driver was over speeding and wanted to overtake when the accident occurred,” the Police publicist said.
He added that another Rwandan passenger Iyakaremye Ceaser, a student at the National University of Rwanda (NUR) was injured and immediately rushed to Dodoma hospital.
A total of thirteen Rwandan passengers were aboard the bus which according to the company’s administrators has been plying the 2000km Kigali route for two years.
Rwanda’s Ambassador to Tanzania Fatuma Ndagiza also confirmed that the accident was caused by the head on collision with the fuel tanker, and added that efforts were on to identify the number of Rwandans involved in the tragedy.
"Up to now I have contradicting information. But we have dispatched a team to go and verify how many people were involved in the accident,” she said by phone yesterday.
Yake Kyazze, a manager with the company said that the bus was supposed to head to Goma from Kigali.
