KIGALI - The Secretary General of IBUKA, Benoit Kaboyi has been suspended pending a management meeting that will decided his fate next month, The Sunday Times can exclusively report.

Ibuka is an umbrella organisation for Genocide survivor organisations in Rwanda, representing them at national and international level. It was created in 1995 in order to address issues of justice, memory, social and economic problems faced by survivors.

Kaboyi’s suspension comes at a time when several complaints have been filed to his bosses  over alleged abuse of office.

Kaboyi, who has been an employee of IBUKA for the last eight years, has been suspended along with Ange Mukaremera who has been in charge of social welfare for the last four years.

Sources within IBUKA told The Sunday Times that Kaboyi was asked to vacate his office after an internal audit showed some discrepancies and irregularities  within the coffers of the organisation.

When contacted for comment, Kaboyi confirmed that he was not in office but downplayed the issue.

" I have been out of office for the last four days due to administrative issues within IBUKA. It is not a big problem, its just a misunderstanding of opinions,” he said

Asked if he had been suspended due to audit irregularities, Kaboyi denied  it and instead invited this reporter to wait for the audit results that will soon be made public.

"No, this is not about the audit report. The audit for the last two years was done one month ago, it will soon be made public. You will have a chance to read it,” he said

When contacted for comment, the President of IBUKA, Theodore Simburudari declined to comment .

"I do not talk about that kind of stuff  on phone,” he said before hastily hanging up. Efforts to reach him for an appointment were fruitless as he declined to pick his phone.
