BUGESERA – Bugesera district Gacaca courts have joined others in the country that have wrapped up their activities.At a colourful function at Kamabare Primary School in Nyarugenge sector organised to officially close the trials, Jean d’Amour Munyansanga, an official of the national Gacaca jurisdiction congratulated the traditional judges over the work well done.
BUGESERA – Bugesera district Gacaca courts have joined others in the country that have wrapped up their activities.
At a colourful function at Kamabare Primary School in Nyarugenge sector organised to officially close the trials, Jean d’Amour Munyansanga, an official of the national Gacaca jurisdiction congratulated the traditional judges over the work well done.
The judges received certificates and medals in recognition of their noble work.
Munyansanga noted that Gacaca had achieved its objective.
"Our major goals of ending impunity and fostering unity and reconciliation have been achieved,” he said.
Bugeseara mayor, Louis Rwagaju, thanked the judges for being impartial during the trials.
"Immediately after the genocide Rwandans were suspicious of one another, but gacaca has helped restore confidence among residents.”
The district’s Gacaca court representative, Pierre Kayinamura said the traditional judges are available to mediate other disputes in society.
Over 5,000 genocide cases were tried in a period of 6 years.
