Hour by hour account of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, a book by Jim Bishop, acts as a sharp eye opener about how fame is ‘for selfish reasons’ John Wilkes Booth, the assassin of Abraham Lincoln had vowed as a child to be a celebrity no matter what it took him.
"I will do something the whole world will notice, be it good or evil,” John Wilkes kept saying as kid.
Though Wilkes came to the lime light in a negative way, after having assassinated Abraham Lincoln. It might as well have been possible for him to end up a prominent pop star, movie star or great athlete.
So if at all Wilkes had grown to be an admirable and breathe taking celebrity, would it change the fact that he had selfish reasons for being known? Being famous is just a swift way of getting things done and earning free personal favours.
I believe that even the ‘kindest’ celebrity out there is just acting! Fame is just a drama that is staged to win more fans which in the end gets celebrities to the height of all that they have dreamed about in their lives.
Oprah Winfrey is known for ‘charity’ in other words she is praised for her kind and helping heart but where does she get all the funds to spill around helping! Ofcourse from the fans she exploits with her ‘so called good deeds.’
Of recent, she was named among America’s richest! Can charity alone have made her that rich? And in any case giving isn’t gaining, she would endup broke if she was only giving to charity.
The logic to being a beloved celebrity is often associated with winning people’s favor no matter what it takes. A celebrity will fake ill fates about them just to appear the best personalities nature has had.
For instance an infamous American artist Akon often fakes incidents when he is in prison, when he falls a victim to defilement all in the name of being favoured like a person!
Celebrities!
They can never stand others just because they are fighting for ‘selfish love’ and earning better than others!
This results into propaganda and tarnishing fellow celebrities’ names; the ones that they think are better than them! Uganda’s singer Jose Chameleon is famous for insulting big artists and then rush to the police before them!
He has featured in songs like ‘bayuda’, Kiganda Lyrics portraying how he has been betrayed by people he helped. Another Ugandan Artist Raga Dee has ventured in a song ‘Nugu’ meaning people are jealous of him.
Meanwhile-R.Kelly is famous for songs where he regards himself as the best though others never accept it. All this is meant to play with fans’ brains to love the celebrities more yet they don’t deserve it!
If all celebrities used their power to change the world, for sure the world would be a better place to be. Following the love and support that the famous get, they can impact the world even in a ‘mere statement’. But instead, celebrities pledge and don’t deliver.
Our own Alpha Rwirangira promised to build an orphanage once he won the Tusker Project Fame 35 million but since then, he has never talked about it again!
After Hurricane Katrina hit The US, famous figures like Julia Roberts, Jammie Fox and Oprah Winfrey aided
But imagine how it would have been if all the celebrities had joined in helping the poor victims. Imagine if celebrities would have a goal of helping human kind! I bet war, crime, hunger, poverty would all be history to this century.
Apart from having a strong say in the society, celebrities have the money to change the world but selfishness ruins it all.
