APR’s chances of dethroning Ministry of Education (Mineduc) as Rendezvous National champions have been pegged back after reports that the army side will not compete in some of the categories.
According to the club’s head coach Eugene Rwabuhihi, the team is likely not to field participants in long jump, high jump, discus, short put, javelin and triple chase.
Last year, Mineduc edged APR because they had a superior overall aggregate after fielding participants in all categories. The ministry amassed 381 points while APR weighed in with 351.
But it is not all gloom for Rwabuhihi following reports that two of his finest athletes have reported to camp. Godfrey Rutayisire and Jean Baptist Simuceka who are based in France and Italy respectively arrived on Wednesday.
Rwanda’s most celebrated track athlete Disi Dieudonne is also expected to jet in some time next week.
