Rwanda and Botswana have pledged to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in key areas, a communiqué issued by officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads.

The statement was issued after talks between the Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eugene Munyakanza and visiting Botswana’s Director of the Department of Africa and Asian Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Zibane J. Ntakhwana.

The nine-man delegation from Botswana arrived in the country Monday for a three-day working visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, the ministry says.

"On this exploratory visit, a wide range of issues are being discussed. The identified areas of cooperation include; Foreign Affairs, Education, Trade and Commerce, Justice, Agriculture, Tourism, Anti-Corruption Institutions, Local Government, Public Service and Natural Resources,” the statement said.

"The heads of delegations further emphasized learning from each other and sharing experiences and best practices. They again expressed their commitment to the partnership and reaffirmed, stated and agreed that it is going to be a model to other partnerships.”

The Botswana delegation paid a courtesy call to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. Minister expressed the importance Rwanda attaches to this Cooperation with Botswana

The delegation also met their Rwandan counterparts, in the Ministry of Local Government, the Ombudsman Office, the Office of Auditor General and the Kigali City Council.

They also visited and paid their tribute to the Kigali Genocide memorial.

Botswana has one of the most successful economies in Africa due to its huge diamond deposits.
