Jean d’Amour Niringiyimana, is said to have vanished last week only days after being recruited by the bank.
According to the bank’s Gicumbi branch manager, Saidi Karegeya, the suspect disappeared last Wednesday.
"After closing down the bank’s transactions late in the evening Jean d’Amour did not declare the money under his control to Kinyami bank sub-branch manager,” Karegeya said. "He walked out of the bank and he has not come back till now.”
Karegeya further disclosed that the case was immediately reported to the police.
The Gicumbi District Police Commander, Sup. Jean de Dieu Gashiramanga confirmed to The New Times that the case has been reported and the suspect is on a wanted list.
The police boss disclosed that the suspect had a previous police case in which he had been accused by Gicumbi district authorities of misappropriating an unspecified amount of cash belonging to Manyagiro Sector, where he was working as a sector accountant.
"Bank Populaire made a mistake to employ him without first cross checking his past criminal records,” Gashiramanga said.
