RWAMAGANA – A 55-year old woman, who is alleged to have killed a young boy during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, has been sentenced to 30 years in jail by Nsinda Gacaca court in Rwamagana district.

The Court, presided over by Abiya Barahoze found Godereva Mukankwaya, guilty of murdering the boy by dumping him in a pit latrine while still alive.

Court said the accused deserved the heavy sentence because she lied during court proceedings.

"The accused had used all tricks to postpone the trial 10 times. The ruling was hence, finally done in accordance with Gacaca laws,” court ruled.

Court also heard that Mukankwaya planted banana plants over the covered latrine in an attempt to cover up evidence.
