MTN Rwanda yesterday launched a retailer promotion that will run until the end of the year in an effort to motivate the frontline retailers of airtime and simpacks.

The country wide promotion, which is restricted to MTN vendors and outlets involved in selling airtime and simpacks, will be monitored by a team from MTN supported by their franchisees and distributors.

Every week the distribution team will analyze the sales returns and announce the weekly winners who will be entitled to either a motorcycle or a bicycle. The company has allocated 75 motorcycles and 150 bicycles.

Khaled Mikkawi, the MTN CEO described the promotion as an important statement of gratitude to our retailers who have through the years remained loyal and committed to growing their business and consolidation of the position as the leading telecommunication provider in Rwanda

"The retailer promotion which will cost the company over 50 million francs is a demonstration of the company’s commitment to its sales and distribution team,” said Annie Bilenge, Channel Distribution Manager for MTN Rwanda.

This comes barely a month MTN Rwanda was involved in a bitter row with its vendors where the company accused its agents for illegally hiking prices of airtime voucher cards above the authorized face value.

Vendors and distributors said the hike was a result of MTN’s deliberate move to increase prices of airtime voucher cards.

Currently MTN has 500 vendors and 40,000 selling points located at strategic points in cities, towns and villages across Rwanda.

For Maria Uwiragiye one of the winners from Nyarugenge said that she was very happy to have won the motor bike.

"I’m really so happy for MTN and am going to use this Motobike to make my work easy and flexible” said Maria adding that the problem of transport on her side has been solved and hope to get more from MTN.
