RWANDA’s football governing body, Ferwafa is contemplating to field a youthful side in the upcoming Orange Cecafa Challenge Cup.
After an appalling 2010 Africa Nations Cup qualification campaign by the seniors, Ferwafa’s Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa believes it is time to give the youngsters an opportunity to showcase their talent.
"We are seriously thinking about fielding a youthful side in the Challenge Cup,” he said, adding that the provisional side would be named before the end of the week.
Rwanda’s dreams of making a second appearance at Africa’s premier football competition (CAN) were dashed on Saturday after Amavubi’s goalless draw against Zambia’s Chipolopolo.
To qualify, Amavubi needed to win Zambia by a two-goal margin.
This year’s Orange Challenge Cup is slated for November 28 to December 13. The draws for the regional event will be held tomorrow in Nairobi.
Nyayo Stadium and Mumias Sports Complex are the venues for the tournament which is expected to attract 13 teams; eleven from the region and two guest teams; Zambia and Zimbabwe.
