Freedom of expression simply means freely showing others how you feel and what you are thinking about. This can be done through speaking, writing, singing and actions.

All children just like adults have the right to freely express themselves. This gives children, the right to express their own opinions freely, with no restrictions.

Sometimes because children are not allowed to speak in public or in the presence of elders, they become afraid of expressing themselves.

This is not good because it makes it difficult to help children who may be facing a problem.

As you read, you will understand how this is possible in Rwanda. The National Children’s Summit that happens every year is the biggest platform for children to express their views at national level.

It is important for parents, teachers and our friends to know how children feel about some things. Expressing yourself as a child is a very important part of growing up.

This is when children learn to write better, communicate better and eventually develop their talents.

As Rwandan children, a lot of efforts have been put in place to allow you make your voices heard. This is through programmes in schools, the radio, the newspapers and even the television.

This means that the time to speak out about your rights as children has come. Never be afraid of what people might think because it is your right. Children are and will always be very important in any society.
