Editor,
I hereby want to make a clarification to a story that appeared in The Sunday Times, where it is written that there was a taxi drivers strike. Instead we were holding a meeting to discuss matters concerning the parking fees. It might have seemed confusing; however, we always meet in the taxi park.
Yes, the taxi drivers had a few problems they wanted addressed. They believed that the parking fees were too high and that Atraco personnel, were unnecessarily antagonistic with them (the drivers). Their problems were given due consideration.
During the meeting with them we agreed to lower the parking fee from Rwf3, 800 to 2,500. Because of the numerous transport agencies operating in Kigali City, with coasters that commuters prefer hence, resulting in less human traffic arriving in the taxi park has really affected taxi drivers.
All the while, the District refuses to reduce the rent we pay- which we find high, in comparison with the monies we get.
The rent we pay is Rwf10 million and not 8 million as it was indicated in the article.
