KIGALI - Former Rwanda National Olympic Committee (RNOC) president, Ignace Beraho and his committee have been summoned by the National Public Prosecution Authority (NPPA) for questioning, Sunday Times has reliably learnt.

Deputy Prosecutor General, Alphonse Hitiyaremye, confirmed this yesterday saying that Beraho and his team, with exception of MP Pierre Claver Rwaka, were summoned on Thursday.

Rwaka, the vice president of RNOC, distanced himself from the committee prior to the on-going saga.

Hitiyaremye said Beraho and his colleagues appeared before the prosecution to questioning on allegations of insubordination. They allegedly resisted Minister of Sports and Culture’s decree to step down as officials of RNOC.

He also said that the NPPA was carrying out some investigations to see if the group could be prosecuted for abuse of office.

Efforts to seek Beraho’s comment were fruitless as he was not picking up his cell phone. Fred Somayire, former RNOC Secretary General declined to comment referring Sunday Times to his former boss.

Earlier on, Beraho had filed a case asking the court to halt Minister Habineza’s decision to dissolve RNOC’s executive committee. He wanted the court to order an immediate opening of the RNOC accounts and offices.

However, court dismissed the case since Beraho had no personality relating to the case.

Minister Habineza dissolved the RNOC committee on grounds of incompetence and committee staying in office beyond its mandate.
