Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister and founder of the African Governance Initiative (AGI) is expected in Kigali today.

Blair will be in Rwanda on a two-day working visit in which he is scheduled to meet with President Paul Kagame, as well as other senior Rwandan officials in the context of the ongoing AGI  support in capacity building for Rwandan institutions.

Mr Blair is also expected to visit various sites in and around Kigali in to highlight issues related to green energy, business and education, according to a briefing from the Office of the President.

Blair was in the country in May this year as part of his in his routine visit to the country to check on different projects run by the Blair Group and AGI mainly focusing on capacity building of both the private and public sectors.

During his last visit, Blair commended the remarkable progress registered over the last 15 years, in terms of good governance and economic growth, adding that the country had positioned itself as one of those with great opportunities for investment.

"It’s easier to tell people today than it was a few years ago, that Rwanda is a favourable place to do business. The President has always said it himself, when people come and see what is happening on the ground, they can gain confidence to come and invest.”

"Of course there are still some challenges but the opportunities are clearer today. I personally tell people of the opportunities available in this country, thanks to the leadership which has made it possible.” he said during his last visit.
