NGORORERO/RUTSIRO – Advanced and ordinary levels national examinations in different parts of the western region ended with some irregularities registered, officials confirmed.

Ngororero district Education Director, Frederic Ngirinshuti told The New Times yesterday that at least one student had been expelled for indiscipline after he attempted to fight the disciplinary master at Irangiro Secondary School.

According to Ngirinshuti, the student whose identity was not readily available by press time was suspected to have been under the influence of illicit drugs.

"Police discovered that he had consumed marijuana and he was put under arrest until exams ended,” Ngirinshuti said by telephone.

At another school, he added, there was one case of impersonation. Other exam centres reported a shortage of examination sheets.

"Some schools had a short fall of mathematics exams and we had to make photocopies,” Ngirinshuti said.

In Rutsiro district, two form three candidates missed examinations due to sickness, sources said while in Karongi district, 25 students missed the exams.

Officials said there were no serious irregularities apart from reports that exams had been sent to wrong destinations.

"One box containing exams papers that belonged to a school in Rubengera sector was sent to a different school in Gishyita sector. But the problem was immediately rectified,” Micheal Mulindankiko, the district’s Education Director said.
