Lutheran World Federation (LWF) a Christian based organization, is set to close down its operations in Rwanda following Rwanda’s transformation from a state of emergency to a steadily growing nation.

This was revealed by Francis Bushaija, the LWF assistant programme country coordinator in an interview with The New Times.

Having been operating in Rwanda since 1994, in the aftermath of the Genocide against Tutsi, the organization has been engaged in activities like provision of clean water, environmental conservation and ensuring food security though government programmes like one cow per household commonly known as ‘Girinka.’

Bushaija said that the operations of the organization will concentrate on Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

"The available funds will be channelled through the national budget to ensure that all the projects we started do not stall once they close down,” said Bushaija.

However, a source within the organization attributed the closure of the Rwanda operation to lack of funds.
