MUSANZE - Veterinarians from the newly constructed Veterinary Clinic attached to the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry-ISAE Busogo, on Monday started offering free veterinary services to livestock farmers in the neighbouring districts.

According to Dr. Charles Ntahoshikira, from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at ISAE, the doctors offer their services for free, but should the farmers require extra medication, they get it at subsidised rates.

Over time, he said, the doctors will carry out vaccination against diseases like anthrax and the foot and mouth disease which may easily spread from countries such as DR Congo which Rwanda shares with borders.

The veterinary clinic which has only three veterinary doctors uses students of veterinary medicine to carry out regular research whose findings are expected to help the residents.

Dr Kizito Nishimwe who heads the clinic said that apart from treating livestock, the students also advise livestock farmers on how to properly manage their stocks.
